The Cut |
|
In repairing the boot lid, I didn't want to ruin the lower line of the lid by welding. So, I determined to cut the tab above the edge of the lid, which would allow me to just re-weld the tab into place and not affect the exterior of the lid. |

Removed |
|
Here is the length of tab removed. I cut the section just a little longer than the length of the rust to allow me to cut and patch below it, then weld it back in. |

This is the rot underneath the tab. |

Prying |
|
I used my trusty old chisel to pry up the tab just slightly in order to remove the rusted section. |

Removing Rot |
|
Here is the rotted section, being removed. You can see just how badly rotted it is. |

Welded |

The new patch panel is welded in place, and the welds ground down smooth. |

Just another view of the same section; a little closer. |

Door Before |
|
It's amazing that under paint that is 40 years old, there lies fresh looking metal! |

Driver's Door |

Here's the driver's door before stripping with the abrasive wheel from Eastwood. |

Stripped |
|
Both doors after stripping. There was some minor rust that I call "spider rust", where the surface rust was deep enough to leave a black looking mark on the metal that is somewhat like a little spider, but not deep enough to pit visibly. |
