Not a lot of pictures this time. Since the work is so dusty, keeping a camera in the area is not a desirable thing to do (especially when it's the family's only camera!
Here you see the rasp I used to rough in the shape. The body man had laid
on a thick coating of body filler, and I needed to get it down. This
putting it on thick, by the way, is the way to do it. If you try to be
stingy with the material, you end up going back over it several times until it's
built up to the proper thickness. I discovered this when I tried to simply
fill a shallow trough that you will see in the picture below. Doing this
time after time is a real pain in the hind end! Do it right the first
time!
Here is the almost-completed front, with only the top and sides remaining to be
sanded (no more body filler needed to be added). The grey looking filler
is fiberglass reinforced Bondo. All the grey is what I added. The
blue is original gel coat, and the pink and orange filler is what the body man
had done. Most of it was already down close to where it needed to be, but
the right corner is where it was laid on thick and nothing further done until I
took it back. I'm pleased with the results. We'll see if the pro
thinks I did OK, or just added more to his workload...
